We, as the purveyors of this estimable pablum and disconnected rambling, can’t help but take note that the daylight hours have changed from an abundance mindset to a scarcity mindset.

This breeds thoughts of where we are in the arc of life. Responsibility for others continues, but not for their desires and dreams, which are taking off and being pleasantly ungovernable. Our telomeres are shortening, and senescence is not too far off, in the long view that recognizes, with a stomach-dropping lurch, that 2050 is closer to the bow of the boat than 2000 is to its stern.

Some of the smartest and most talented young dudes and ladies who wanted to build great new things are now building automated weapons systems on behalf of companies coined off Lucas channeling Philip K Dick and Tolkien. Money flows to where the bombs are being made. And some of it is your money. Sure, the government is best which governs least, but the much neglected corollary still holds: the citizen who least needs governing is most able to realize the good that blooms in spaces where money has less currency and government has less reach. Easy for us to say. But the saying is the easiest of all. The self-governing, when no one is looking or keeping accounts, is where the work gets done.

We should keep asking if it’s enough to ask whether we can and should keep wondering what will happen if we grow ever more hesitant to ask if we should.

So many of these diseases feed off the crippling, vacuous delusion that the I that speaks this body is singularly unique. This body isn’t even a unity - it is a host for organisms that let it live and an inheritance of the kooky providence that placed us here, inhabited in this body, emboldened with this particular kind of mind, and enmeshed in the kind of grace that might be mustered in response to the new forms of all the old exigencies.
